The Future of Work and What It Means for Meetings

“Future of Work 2025” Report Through HUONE’s Lens

Yes — we know what HUONE is not. We’re not an office provider. We don’t rent out desks or fixed spaces. HUONE is a full-service meeting and events venue company. We specialize in creative, bookable rooms for business events, offsites, workshops, trainings, and team days — spaces that deliver value beyond the everyday.

That’s why we took a closer look at the recent Castellum Tulevaisuuden Työelämä 2025 (Future of Work 2025) report. The study surveyed over 4,000 white-collar professionals across Finland, Sweden, and Denmark. It’s filled with insights that—if interpreted differently—point directly to a growing need for what HUONE offers.

Here are five key takeaways, re-analyzed through our lens:

1. Offices are becoming places to connect, not just work

“Employees go to the office to meet, collaborate, and socialize—not to focus.”

Most employees now go into the office to collaborate. In Finland, more than half said the office supports interaction, but only one in four felt it helped with focused work.

What this means: More teams are looking beyond their usual workspaces for places that help them think together. Offices aren’t always set up for that, but purpose-built venues can be.

2. Hybrid is the new normal, but it’s not a fix-all

“Hybrid is the preferred model—but employers struggle to bring people back meaningfully.”

People want flexibility, and hybrid setups are here to stay. But companies are still figuring out how to bring people together in meaningful ways. Just being in the same room isn’t enough. It has to feel worthwhile.

What this means: Fewer meetings happen in person now, which raises the bar. When they do, they need to count—whether it’s for strategy, innovation, or team building.

3. There’s a Gap Between Leaders and Employees

“Leaders are more satisfied with current workspaces than employees.”

Managers tend to feel more satisfied with office spaces than their teams do. But many employees say they’re missing what they actually need: flexibility, creativity, and connection.

What this means: There’s a real opportunity for companies to rethink where they gather. Choosing inspiring, supportive spaces can make all the difference in how teams feel and perform.

4. Work is also social—especially for younger generations

“For Gen Z and Millennials, work is also a social space.”

For Gen Z and Millennials, work isn’t just about getting things done. It’s also about community. They want spaces where they can build relationships and feel a sense of belonging.

What this means: We see this play out at HUONE every day. The most memorable meetings are the ones that bring people closer, not just move tasks forward.

5. Design and location really matter

“Uninspiring offices are a major reason people avoid returning.”

Younger professionals care about where they spend their time and what the space feels like. An uninspiring room in a hard-to-reach location won’t cut it.

What this means: Details matter. People notice the difference when a space is thoughtfully designed and easy to get to—and it makes them want to show up.

So what does this mean for the future of meetings?

More and more, companies are choosing to meet with intention. They’re looking for moments that energize their teams, spark new ideas, and build trust.

“I hear a lot of talk about the future of work, but not nearly enough about the future of meetings. It should be a key part of every company’s strategy. Leaders need to move away from default settings and start treating face-to-face time as intentional, high-value moments. At HUONE, we help make those moments count because the office alone can’t always deliver what teams really need.”
